Minutes
(Jon started with overview of how this phone call is required by our Development Process and the history of the charter and discussion so far. Basically, the proposed charter was announced on Jan. 29 and discussed soon thereafter within the Marketing Committee, and no other discussion since. Not surprising since everything appears to be highly straightforward.)
DavidB: Before anything else, we should ask if people have any questions or if there are issues that people see?
Jon: OK, any questions or issues that people have?
(no response)
Jon: I'm not surprised. Everything looks very straightforward to me. Just documenting and formalizing what the marketing committee has been doing for the past nine months.
Bill: What is the decision process on materials being made public? How do materials get approved?
Jon: Depends. For small changes to Web site, if a particular type of change has been approved in the past, such as adding new members to the home page, I just make the change.
Bill: Ok to change the web site and wiki as needed. Not looking for detailed control there. I am mainly asking about white papers and whether they follow the same process as specifications.
Jon: Not so far. White papers have been developed within the marketing committee, with final versions reviewed and approved during a meeting, but we haven't had formal voting.
DavidF: So far we have always published information based on consensus.
Jon: Maybe we should have a documented electronic vote before posting revised white papers. As chair, I can just adopt such a process. I don't see a new to revise the charter for this. Such a change makes sense to me.
(Jon walks through the charter)
Jon: Any objections to the mission and scope? Everything is stated broadly in terms of whatever communications and educational materials we feel are necessary and appropriate.
(No comments or objections)
Jon: (Repeats the key bullets under deliverables) Any comments on the deliverables?
Jon: A key sentence is on intellectual property. It says that there are no known IP issues. Any comments?
DavidF, one other person: No problems with that sentence.
Jon: Duration through end of 2008. That can change, but needs a revised charter and another vote by members and Steering Committee. Any comments?
Jon: Regarding milestones, we have already completed the first bullet with the revised white papers. Another expected milestone is material on OpenAjax Conformance. Any questions or comments?
Jon: We are successful if the industry looks to our web site as a preferred place for information on how to be successful for open and interoperable Ajax. Any comments or questions?
(None)
Jon: I have proposed myself as chair. The process within the WG would be at the discretion of the chair, but follow accepted industry practice about reaching consensus. Any comments or questions?
(None)
Jon: One last chance before ending the meeting: any other comments and questions?
(None)
Jon: Finally, how do people intend to vote?
- Dave McAllister: Adobe will vote yes
- Bill Roy: Openwave needs to think about things, but probably yes, the charter looks fine
- David Boloker: IBM will vote yes
- Ted Thibodeau: OpenLinkSW will vote yes
- Jeremy: ActiveGrid will vote yes
- David Frankel: SAP will vote yes
Jon: OK, thanks. I will submit the charter for member voting tomorrow. If the members approve and the Steering Committee approves, we might have an official working group in time for the next marketing committee meeting in two weeks
