Link Rules
Begin today at "Link Rules" http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG20/quickref/#qr-navigation-mechanisms-refs
Jon Gunderson chairing today's call
Jon - if image and link are same link, leave alt text off image as it is redundant Link needs to contain content or it is a problem for kbd users, who can tab there but no action is available.
Jon - Use ARIA-presentation=true when a null alt attribute is found on an image where image is the only content in a link.
Nathan - links that have same URL should have same text (one-to-one mapping) http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/NOTE-WCAG20-TECHS-20081211/H81
Nathan - if nested, should uniqueness be required?
Nathan - 'meaningful' requires manual testing
Jon - test for keywords not needed or uniqueness
Jon - are there other tests other than uniqueness for meaningful/purpose?
Jon - how to calculate content of a link http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/NOTE-WCAG20-TECHS-20081211/ARIA1 Uniqueness is not enough for purpose.
Jon - any contextual information can be used to make a link unique
Jon - possibly back to Best Practice mode for link labeling http://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/navigation-mechanisms-link.html
Nathan - 2.4.9 may not be stating uniqueness
Jon - only automatic option is for purpose is uniqueness
Jon - so many ways to satisify 2.4.4, regular coding practice should cover because it allows so many options.
Ann - did we cover the two failure statements for 2.4.4?
Jon - is uniqueness our primary purpose of link?
start at 2.4.4/F63 next call
