Minutes
Topic: JSUnit
Jon said we need to take JSUnit out of our distribution tree and make it a separate download. There should be a known relative path (relative to the sourceforge download) where it should go on one’s local system It will be removed from the distribution tree. Jon will work with James on this.
Topic: Changes to Sourceforge project since last telecon
Jon tried to do what we talked about on the last call and took the liberty to make a few other changes. Jon posted new code. Kevin Hackman from Tibco tested the code and got it working. Jon posted an even newer version on Saturday, and requested that Tibco test that too. Kevin said he will ask his engineers to do that. Jon asked whether the OpenAjax code is in Tibco’s open source tree, and, if so, whether we could get our hands on the code that was used as the context for the testing, but Kevin said that that code is not open source. Jon asked whether some snippets of the context code could be shared, and Kevin said he would look into it.
Nobody else on the call has looked at the code or run the tests.
Jon posted some tests, and created html files as an anchor from which to run the tests. He requests that people test the code and run the tests. Need to test whether the Hub is really providing interoperability. For those who have their own frameworks, this is a good time to test the degree of interoperability that the Hub provides.
Topic: The Hub specification
Jon has not made any progress on the Hub specification since the last telecon.
Topic: Integration testing
Jon asked whether we need additional artifacts such as guidelines, more documentation, more test code, and so on. Coach believes that people can deal with the JavaScript source code as is.
Jon asked Adam if there’s anything we can do to facilitate getting the Hub working for Dojo, but Adam said he isn’t prepared to answer that question at this time. Jon says he thinks it’s possible to add an adapter layer to the prototype, so there could be a tag that points to prototype.js and one that points to prototype.openajaxadapter.js.
Lindsey Simon has left FineTooth, so is at least temporarily out of OpenAjax. Lindsey was going to do the integration of the prototype.
Various people said that they would try to test the Hub.
Jon said to Ted of IceSoft that they clearly have server-side functionality, so it would be good for them to do at least a paper review of the APIs and related artifacts to determine whether the Hub seems to be on the right track.. Ted thinks that they should be able to use the Hub.
Topic: Best practice Wiki pages
Jon is creating best practice Wiki pages, with separate pages for different subject areas, e.g. a Wiki page for the browser vendors. His intention is that, as we realize that there’s something we need as a best practice, let’s capture it on the Wiki pages, and use the content of the Wiki pages to develop a best practices document later. Discussion that we should keep these lists small. Jon said we need to prioritize and focus on the most important best practices. Jon said that tests that test for best practices in addition to just words would provide a lot more substance.
Topic: Task forces
Kevin of Tibco is getting the IDE taskforce underway. Two task forces have telecons later today.
