Topic: Logo and web site
We reviewed http://www.openajaxalliance.org/member/wiki/index.php/Marketing/LogoIdeas
Q: What about AJAX vs Ajax
Rob: Ajax is becoming a general term, not an acronym
Jon: We decided that there was industry momentum around OpenAjax with mixed capitalization so we wanted to see if we could keep that approach. Only switch to OpenAJAX if community or members or design team objecs. That OK?
Rob: That's fine.
Dominic: Emphasize OpenAjax over alliance is a goal. #1 is the best for that. Allows "Member" at the end.
Rob: Should be OpenAjax Alliance Member, not OpenAjax Member.
Dominic: OK
Jon: IBM people liked #2 the best. We preferred OpenAjax on one line, not split.
Dylan: Good to encourage one word. So they don't think it's OK to split the words. I like the way the p and j line up in #1, but can see the reason for one word. Don't like the j in #3.
Rob: #2 is more interesting. How to do "member"?
Dylan: Maybe could move "Alliance" up and make smaller. Probably could fit between the p and j. Then for member could put a ruler underneath with member under the ruler.
Jon: Sounds like we are in the mood to close on logos.
Dylan: Let's take #2, shrink alliance, take out rule, then put it back in if "member" is added.
Rob: Good to do a draft that shows how "Member" would look
Jon: What about look and feel of web site and color scheme?
Dylan: We are slammed right now.
Jon: Any graphics direction would be helpful. Maybe a little contribution will give what is enough.
Dylan: OK.
Jon: Shoot for progress for next Marketing meeting, in 10 days. Shoot for completing initial web site by end of month.
Topic: Interoperability example
Dylan: Shows Dojo and Rico together
Dylan: Concerned that if it has bad style in script source. I see a few examples of things. Shouldn't be doing some of the things that are done. Need review before posting.
Jon: I was assuming that there would be some very visible caveats explaining that this is just an early visual example and not an example of what to do.
Dylan: OK. That's better.
Rob: I would expect that the example shows our technologies.
Dylan: Doesn't illustrate OpenAjax hub at all.
(someone): The purpose would be to show the interop framework.
Jon: OK to wait. We could wait until there is an initial hub spec, initial sample JavaScript, and initial toolkits that support the hub. Probably means a couple of months.
Rob: Agree with that. Concerned that it might have opposite effect if not done right.
Gary: We decided to avoid gratuitous Ajax.
Dominic: Web site will have different levels of visitors with different levels of understanding. Do we need some examples to get people up to speed on Ajax?
Jon: Better to link to other sites for that. Whitepaper will include our definition of what Ajax is, but we want to have other sites showcase Ajax in action.
Dominic: Who is target of web site?
Jon: We talked about this at the last meeting during discussion on positioning, branding and messaging. Short-term: infrastructure folks, such as ourselves. Long-term: Web developers and IT professionals who will use Ajax.
Topic: Whitepaper
(Correction: It was Gary who wrote the new section on Ajax Programming Models)
Gary: Feel free to email suggestions
(someone): Also, can post discussion on wiki
Jon: Or just change the text
(General agreement that the section is well-done and appropriate)
Dylan: (comment about adding reference to browser and HTTP) (comment about server-side almost implies JS is in a different language) Just these detailed comments. Otherwise, I think it's great
(someone): Ray Gartner has done some good work
(someone): He breaks things down along a different axis, such as richness of toolkit
Jon: Volunteers?
Chris: I will up the pace. Would be great if there were a couple of others.
Gary: I will make more contributions.
Dylan: I will try to work on the reverse Ajax and future of Ajax sections.
Andre: I can contribute.
Jon: I will try, also.
Jon: Let's all shoot for having things contributed in time for the next Marketing meeting in 10 days
