Mobile Ajax discussion at March 2007 face-to-face meeting
Resolution: Documenting successful Mobile Ajax development and deployment strategies

From the minutes:
Resolution: Start a Mobile Task Force. Initial activities would be centered around documenting successful Mobile Ajax development and deployment strategies. This helps with promotion and education and would likely expose lists of Ajax features needed within mobile browsers (progress towards Acid test) and lead towards collecting a list of Best Practices. Regarding device api standards, if the community submits a proposal and feels OpenAjax is the best place, we might develop some sort of pre-standard that would be handed off to a different standards organization later.

Other possible activities around Mobile Ajax
Here are some candidate activities for OpenAjax Alliance that were discussed at the Oct 2006 meeting:
Best Practices, Test Suites, Maybe Device APIs
OpenAjax Alliance might be able to help the Mobile Ajax ecosystem by contributing towards 3 types of Best Practices specifications, and then evangelizing those specifications to the industry:
- Mobile Ajax best practices for mobile browsers - Identify the conformance criteria that mobile browsers need to implement to achieve an efficient Mobile Ajax ecosystem based on open and interopable standards.
- Mobile Ajax best practices for Ajax toolkits - Identify the conformance criteria for Ajax toolkits to achieve an efficient Mobile Ajax ecosystem based on open and interopable standards.
- Mobile Ajax best practices for Ajax applications - Identify the conformance criteria for Mobile Ajax applications.
It would be of high value to the community if there were test suites that were developed in conjunction with any Best Practices documents which could serve as tools in helping the community to move towards conformance. For example, an Ajax acid test might prove useful to the mobile browser community to ensure that mobile devices supported the key functionality needed by Ajax toolkits and Ajax applicaitons.
The final area where OpenAjax Alliance might help the mobile ecosystem is around specifications for integrating Ajax applications with device APIs, such as GPS/location, camera features, battery strength, signal strength, contact list, and SMS/MMS mechanisms. There are related standards efforts, such as the JCP and W3C, but OpenAjax Alliance should determine if there is a critical role we might play in support of the other efforts.
