Minutes
Topic: Hub 1.0, InteropFest 1.0
Jon: Hub 1.0 seems to be done. Just doing the InteropFest as final check. InteropFest 1.0 template has been launched. Lightstreamer immediately posted two demos. TIBCO has a demo but not complete yet. Questions/comments?
(none)
Topic: AJAXWorld conference
Jon: I will speak at general session "OpenAjax Hub 1.0 and Beyond"
Jon: Will have press release like last time
Kevin: What topics and when?
Jon: In March, press release announced MS, InteropFest and white papers. Probably this time we would have a similar combo press release, where InteropFest is mentioned along with companies that have participated. Will go out at time of AJAXWorld.
Jon: Dylan suggested stickers for badges that say "OpenAjax Alliance Member".
Kevin: Great idea. What about placard likes last time.
Jon: Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that. We will do that again.
Topic: AJAXWorld magazine - 3 articles
Jon: Plan is to submit 3 articles. One would be an upbeat update on our great progress in the past year. Second would talk about Hub 1.0. Third would be a subsetted version of Security TF white paper.
David: Anyone helping?
Jon: I would do most of the writing of the first draft, with plans to have it all ready by Monday. Then review and editing help. ILOG is trying to help. IBM is likely to help.
David: OK
Topic: Hub 1.1
(Jon summarizes meeting at Ajax Experience and proposal-in-process to extend pub/sub beyond intra-frame to cross-frame and client-server, along with pursuing support for secure mashups. All done in InteropWG. Maybe disband CommHub TF in process.)
Kevin: You didn't mention how this would build on and be compatible with Hub 1.0
Jon: Yes. Also, plan is to put early effort into open source development to get things working and then work on spec issues such as API definitions after we have experience
Topic: Mobile Ajax Task Force
Jon: Just two hours ago we had a kick-off meeting. About 9 people from about 8 companies. I was pleasantly surprised by the emerging consensus. People seemed to accept the "one-web" notion and agree to start work on a white paper and see what we can contribute in the area of device apis.
Kevin: What do you mean by one-web?
Jon: That there will be the same support for browser technologies on mobile devices as on desktop in terms of support for HTML, JavaScript, DOM, XMLHttpRequest and those sorts of things. But the group agrees that even if the base browser technologies are the same, mobile devices still have different issues, such as location-aware, small screens, poor keyboard, no mouse, etc. We seemed to have consensus about this.
(someone): What about widgets?
Jon: At the meeting there seemed to be agreement that mobile widgets are in scope and need to be taken into account.
Topic: Security Task Force
Jon: After taking a long time to get started, the Security TF is making great progress. An 11-page white paper is basically all done and has been handed off to Mktg WG for review, editing and publishing. There is a wiki page that has lots of content that links to resources on Ajax security topics. Also, progress on a use cases document.
David: I have had multiple customer visits recently where people are asking where is a good central point of information on Ajax security issues. This white paper seems highly timely.
Jon: Need to ask customers to tell us the good and bad from the white paper and tell us what we need to help them out.
Topic: IDE WG
Kevin: Nearly done with requirements. Now ready to look at particular technologies. Some members such as MS have submitted proposals that appear on target for the requirements.
Topic: Next meeting
Jon: In 2 or 3 weeks, but I don't remember what we talked about. I'll have to research and send invitations separately.
