Minutes

Topic: New members

Jon: Important to address membership requests in a timely manner because we have an election coming up

Jon: We already talked about and pre-approved Matthias Hertel as our first individual as a member, pending my recent of a signed Members Agreement. I have the MA now, but we need a final approval vote. Any objections to unanimous approval?

(no objections)

Resolution: Matthias Hertel is now a member

Jon: Golden Eye Solutions has submitted a Members Agreement but not the required email. They are a small consulting firm in Montreal with little on their web site, but claim to be involved in open source. The contact is Jonathan Bond-Caron who is known to be active in Dojo open source efforts and who has floated a proposal to pursue a standards JS loader within OpenAjax. I believe there is enough evidence that Golden Eye is committed to the Purpose of OpenAjax. Therefore, I recommend we approve their membership in advance, but held up until the point when I receive the required email information. Any objections to unanimous approval?

(a couple of people mumble approval)

Resolution: Golden Eye Solutions will become a member once the email information is received

Jon: wireXN has submitted all required paperwork and talks about Ajax on their web site. They have tools and frameworks for web applications. They say they have some patents but intend to provide RF licenses to open source world. They are located in Israel. I believe they meet our criteria and recommend they be approved for membership. Any objections to unanimous approval?

(no objections)

Resolution: wireXN is now a member

Topic: Zimbra acquisition by Yahoo

Jon: Checked with the principal author of the Members Agreement. As best I can determine, the default case if no action is that Yahoo inherits Zimbra's members agreement and assumes their responsibilities and roles and thus is on the Steering Committee

Scott: The plan is that Zimbra would be fully integrated into Yahoo, and thus from an IP perspective, the sense is that Yahoo would assume the IP obligations in the Members Agreement. But in either perspective, don't know that it is appropriate to continue on Steering Committee. I want to be completely above board. Maybe withdraw to open our slot and then have an election to let members decide? The acquisition is coming to a head quickly. Sometime in the next few weeks.

Jon: If we are to have an election to fill Zimbra's slot, I recommend that it be a separate election from the one we are having now and immediately after it. We don't want to make the current election confusing. Also, allows the members to discuss this issue at the face-to-face next week.

Scott: Let's do that. Talk about it next week and see what everyone thinks.

MikeM: Sounds right.

Topic: AJAXWorld

Jon: Things are looking good. I have 3 speaking slots and our 3 articles have already been published online and will be in the print magazine. Only grammatical changes.

Jon: On the promotional front, there was talk about stickers and t-shirts but I have run out of time. I still need to do the 5x7 placards for the InteropFest. I will work on those this weekend.

Topic: Election

Jon: Nominees so far are Microsoft and Zend.

Jon: There have been some reports of usability problems with the election web pages. I have attempted to put in more documentation and made various fixes. I even created an alternate voting page. The regular voting page uses wiki logins and passwords to authenticate that the votes are coming from a known source. The alternate voting page just has you enter your email, name, and company. Verification will be manual. But in all cases the primary contact for a company will be told about who voted. And there is always the final backup to send votes to me via email. My biggest concern was that people's votes got through.

Topic: AJAXWorld press release

Jon: We are sending out a press release on Monday. About 10 companies will be quoted. I have provided a link to an early draft of the press release.

Topic: Face-to-face

Jon: I just recently updated the agenda to include proposed time slots for each topic.

(various comments about how some of the topics will spur interesting discussion)

Jon: Some of you are in airports and can't see the latest agenda. Please look at it this weekend. I was thinking about sending an email to all members with the agenda both to remind them about the f2f and to give an opportunity to propose changes. OK to send that on Monday?

(no objections)
