Jon Ferraiolo feedback on Coach's wiki page (2006-11-10)
- The OpenAjax Hub is a bit of client-side technology whose focus is to enable multiple Ajax runtimes to work together within the same HTML page. As such, I would expect that the most critical feature is to mediate between and manage the various XMLHttpRequests requirements that might come from these multiple Ajax runtimes. Basically, an XMLHttpRequest "hub" that is parallel with the Markup Scanning "hub" and the Event Hub features that are already targeted for the first release of the OpenAjax Hub. (This overlaps somewhat with your #4.)
- If there are any server-side requirements on the communications front, then I would think that those requirements should be discussed with the Server Integration Task Force (http://www.openajax.org/member/wiki/Server_TF). While it is true that the early membership of the Server TF is from the JSF folks, the name of the task force is "Server Integration Task Force", not "JSF Integration Task Force". So, at least there should be discussion about what role the Server TF should play in these communications issues.
- My personal opinion about all of the "push" scenarios is that we should push them off (so to speak) until after version 1 of the OpenAjax Hub. I agree that push is VERY IMPORTANT and OpenAjax might play a key role in helping the industry converge on a shared approach, but I suggest pushing push out of version 1 based on discussion with Alex and Greg about the current state of Comet. They told me a few weeks ago that there was still some months of work on Comet before they would feel it would be ready for any standardization work. I think it would be better to let the open source folks hammer things out some more, and this is likely to be off the schedule for OpenAjax Hub 1.0, which I hope is largely spec'd out and coded by the end of 2006.

Agreed with all three - which is exactly what i recommended in my earlier comments. The word "push" in Problem 1 and Problem 2 maybe misleading, but i think we are in agreement and we may need to reword them so that there is no misunderstanding.
