Proposal to charter an IDE Working Group

The IDE Task Force, in operation since late 2006, is in the process of promoting its activities to Working Group status, which will allow it to publish official Specifications and other Material per the alliance’s Members Agreement and its Development Process. The draft charter will be discussed during an all-member phone call on June 21, after which the members and Steering Committee will vote on creation of the new Working Group.

The proposed IDE Working Group’s group will be industry metadata standards for Ajax controls and Ajax library APIs to ease the integration of arbitrary Ajax toolkits with arbitrary Ajax IDEs.

OpenAjax Hub 1.0 is near completion

Blogged by: Jon Ferraiolo on June 6, 2007 at 3:32 pm

The OpenAjax Hub is close to completion. The draft specification, the open source reference implementation at SourceForge, and the test suite have been updated to reflect finalization decisions made at the March 2007 face-to-face meeting and in subsequent teleconferences.

Our philosophy with Hub 1.0 is that less is more. The key feature in Hub 1.0 is the pub-sub engine that allows components to pass messages to each other. Due to discipline and hardwork, we have managed to keep the reference implementation’s footprint small (right now, 2,845 bytes after running through Dojo ShrinkSafe).

We encourage the membership and the public to review what we have now, try it out, and send us feedback. We are performing detailed review and final clean-up activities in the coming weeks and doing trial integrations with some of the member organization’s Ajax toolkits. Exact schedule depends on progress, but if all goes well, we might finalize and approve OpenAjax Hub 1.0 within the next couple of months.

OpenAjax Alliance’s first two official Working Groups have been approved by the OpenAjax Alliance’s members and Steering Committee. These two Working Groups are now able to publish official Specifications and other Material per the alliance’s Members Agreement and Development Process. The likely first official Specification to be published is the OpenAjax Hub 1.0 Specification (see latest draft spec and open source reference implementation at SourceForge).
