- Next face-to-face-meeting, October 5/6, Silicon Valley
Topic: Announcement this morning about Members Agreement
(about 20 minutes of discussion. worries about big companies being able to review and sign by Oct 5. comment that it might have been better to disclose the members agreement in a more symmetric way where all members participated in its drafting versus an initial subset of members. question about how the initial 10 companies were chosen, which Jon answered by saying it was an attempt to find a broad set of organizations spanning both commercial and open source, large and small, with some precedence to original 15 members who joined on Feb 1, with some precedence to companies where people were in US time zones for convenience.)
(question about special role of initial six companies. jon indicated he expects the 6 original companies have no interest in taking advantage of their short-term position, and on the contrary all indications are that they want continuity and want to avoid any appearance of taking advantage, and sole objectives appear to be to honor the Agreement they signed and fulfill their responsibilities in this "limbo" or transition period, particularly making sure there are fair elections on Oct 5 for the official Steering Committee.)
Resolution: Jon to create wiki page that captures feedback and any changes that people have proposed. (Already created: http://www.openajaxalliance.org/member/wiki/index.php?title=Members_Agreement_Discussion)

(no one volunteered)

- PROPOSAL: later
Ian: looks really good
Nolwen: it does
Joe on web site: prudent to wait a couple of weeks on the web site, make sure the press release is ready, requires some coordination time for quotes.
Joe on press release: reporters and industry partners will be happy to see the web site, logo, rising membership, whitepapers and hub. people will like to see how we define ajax and openajax on web site. will draw attention and drive membership growth. press release can be ready fairly quickly and then he will share it with the marketing committee for review. likely to have provision for quotes from new members since last press release. not sure of timing, but sometime in early september. maybe week of Sept 11 or Sept 18.
(regarding openajax@yahoogroups.com, multiple people stated support for talking about this on our web site. The staged web site has been updated. See http://www.openajaxalliance.org/member/website-staging/contact.html)
Resolution: mention openajax@yahoogroups.com on public web site
(we decided to not post the Members Agreement at this point on the public web site and thus visible to the press, per Shel's suggestion. instead, whenever new companies express interest in joining by sending email to Jon, Jon will respond by attaching the Members Agreement as an attachment with associated explanation about the transitional phase that we are in right now.)
Resolution: don't post Members Agreement on initial web site
(joe asked about whether other standards organizations post their IP agreements, and a couple of people responded yes.)
Resolution: postpone blogging feature
Topic: Member logo (i.e., current logo with the word "Member" at the bottom)
- See new version of logo with "member" (or MEMBER) at bottom Logo ideas
(no one on the call had a critical short-term need for a logo which has "member" at the bottom)
(Ian likes the first member logo the best, but pointed out that at thumbnail size things start disappearing)
Topic: FYI - Status with open source
(jon talked about technical groups deciding they needed to have a proper open source project, decided sourceforge was the best option at this point, and is working through setup issues such as a contributor license agreement)
Topic: Transition internal email discussion to yahoogroups? (openajax_marketing@yahoogroups.com)
(main advantage to yahoogroups - archiving. but requires everyone to have a yahoogroups account)
(david frankel says other standards groups have used yahoogroups effectively)
Resolution: postpone movement of private email list to yahoogroups until face-to-face meeting
Topic: Market Overview Whitepaper - brand new document, ready for initial feedback
- Market Overview Whitepaper: http://www.openajaxalliance.org/member/wiki/index.php/Market_Overview_Whitepaper
Ian: Maybe drop the market overview whitepaper. Overlap with Technical whitepaper. No one has jumped in to help. Maybe not worth the effort.
Jon: In working on articles for AJAXWorld, I found that we had reasonable coverage of topics, so yes there is overlap.
Ian: Main objectives was better use cases and examples. Easily digestible of what is ajax and its value proposition.
Jon: I agree with everything Ian is saying.
?: The main value proposition is better ui, but the paper talks about bandwidth, which is reaching.
Andrei: Maybe keep the whitepaper going. we need to do better talking about use cases and benefits
?: Having a couple of real-world scenarios are needed.
Jon: I agree we need to do a better job, but there might be other strategies for doing this other than just finishing the whitepaper.
?: How about give everyone 4 weeks to flesh out the new whitepaper?
(discussion of alternatives)
Resolution: everyone has 4 weeks to advance and improve the market overview whitepaper
Resolution: in meantime, if anyone can think of other approaches to accomplishing the objectives, they should be proposed.
